Does Clarissa require an internet connection?
On iOS 26+ with Apple Intelligence, Clarissa works completely offline using on-device AI. For the CLI version or if you configure a cloud provider, an internet connection is required for AI responses.
What permissions does the iOS app need?
Clarissa requests permissions only when you use specific features:
- Calendar — Required to create or view calendar events
- Contacts — Required to search or view contacts
You can use Clarissa without granting these permissions.
How do I get an OpenRouter API key?
Visit openrouter.ai/keys to create a free account and generate an API key. OpenRouter provides access to Claude, GPT-4, Gemini, and many other models.
Why isn't on-device AI working?
On-device AI using Apple Foundation Models requires:
- iOS 26+ or macOS 26+
- Apple Intelligence enabled in Settings
- A device with Apple Silicon (iPhone 15 Pro or later, M-series Macs)
If unavailable, configure an OpenRouter API key in Settings as a fallback.
How do I clear my conversation history?
iOS: Tap the menu icon and select "New Conversation" or use "Clear Conversation"
in the menu.
CLI: Use the /clear command or start a new session.
Is Clarissa free?
Yes, Clarissa is free and open source. On iOS 26+, you can use it entirely for free with on-device AI. Cloud providers like OpenRouter may have usage costs based on their pricing.
