Overview
Clarissa is designed with privacy as a core principle. The iOS app processes conversations entirely on-device using Apple's Foundation Models when available. The CLI version connects to your configured LLM provider.
Data We Don't Collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit:
- Your conversations or chat history
- Personal information or identifiers
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Device information or diagnostics
- Calendar or contacts data
On-Device Processing (iOS)
On iOS 26+ devices with Apple Intelligence enabled, Clarissa uses Apple's Foundation Models for AI processing. All conversations are processed locally on your device and never leave it.
Your calendar events and contacts are accessed only when you explicitly use those features, and this data is processed entirely on-device.
Proactive Context (optional): When enabled in Settings, Clarissa detects calendar and weather keywords in your messages and prefetches relevant data on-device before responding. This feature is disabled by default and only operates when using on-device Foundation Models processing.
Optional Cloud Providers
If you choose to configure an external LLM provider (such as OpenRouter), your conversations will be sent to that provider's servers. In this case:
- You provide your own API key directly to the provider
- We do not have access to your API key or conversations
- The provider's privacy policy applies to data sent to their servers

Share Extension
Clarissa includes a Share Extension that allows you to share text, URLs, and images from other apps. Shared content is stored locally via App Group storage and processed entirely on-device. No shared content is transmitted externally.
iCloud Sync
Long-term memories can optionally sync across your devices via Apple's iCloud Key-Value Store. This data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple's iCloud infrastructure. We do not have access to your iCloud data. Memory sync includes device identifiers solely for conflict resolution between your own devices.
Local Storage
Clarissa stores the following data locally on your device:
- Session history — Your conversation history for session continuity
- Long-term memories — Facts you explicitly ask Clarissa to remember, with categories, confidence scores, and relationship links
- Custom templates — Conversation templates you create
- Settings — Your app preferences and configuration
- API keys — Stored securely in the system keychain (iOS) or config file (CLI)
This data remains on your device (and optionally iCloud for memories) and is not transmitted to us or any third party.
